"I question my salvation. I waste my life eating from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, rather than eating from the tree of life." A broken man, sitting in jail, recently wrote those words to me. He truly desires to do what is right, but seems time and time again to come up short.  Even though this guy finds himself incarcerated for his stupid choices, it does not mean that others have not made similar choices (and have stumbled and fallen). While others may not be in a physical jail cell like this man, they are still in chains from the bondage of sin.
I think of the text where Peter asked Jesus how many times should he forgive a person and Jesus said "70 times 7" (Matt. 18:22). I think for all of us repeat offenders, which includes all of us who are alive, Jesus says he is always there to forgive, and we should not mock the cross by rejecting His loving forgiveness. I had a friend kill himself because he was a repeat offender of a certain abuse that he struggled to conquer. The saddest part, besides the wife and children he left behind, was the wisdom he shared while he was in the fight. Satan won the earthly battle but not the heavenly.
I think we all should say, "Save by the grace of God, there go I."
